William (Billy) C Helms Jr

Billy was born in Chicago, Illinois on April 22, 1959, to William C. Helms, Sr. and Alice Helms.  He passed away at his home in Idabel on March 31, 2024.

Bill was of the Protestant faith and was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan, holding season tickets for many years.  He worked as a grocery store manager for Piggly Wiggly and in later years as a member of the employee team of Pruett's Foods.  His fun-loving personality made him a popular person among the other employees. He loved to play the football contest in the local paper and won many times.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister and brother-in-law, Beverly and Don Morrow.

Bill married Judy Hale on April 30, 1988, and became stepfather to four sons, Jon, Gaylen, Gary, and Jay. Judy preceded him in death.

Bill supported St. Jude's Research Hospital with his contributions and the family request that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to St. Jude's or your favorite charity. Bill was a member of the 1977 class of Idabel Gray High School.

Bill is survived by first cousins, Mark and Sharon Helms, Idabel, OK, Mike and Linda Helms, Idabel, OK, Tammy and Alvin Jamerson, Garvin, OK, Joyce Free, Mesquite, TX, Maureen Stiles, Idabel, OK, James Allen and Becky Helms, Angleton, TX, Daryl and Vicki Helms, Andrews, TX.  Also surviving is his special friend, Cynthia Ward.  He is also survived by other relatives and many friends.

Memorial services are scheduled for 11 a.m. at Nunley's Funeral Home, 3 NW Bois d'Arc, Idabel on Thursday, April 11. Lynn Walden will officiate.
