Vera Hawkins (Davis) aka "Aunt Baby" entered into eternal peace on Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at Memorial Heights Nursing Home in Idabel. She was born on November 24, 1946 to Jeremiah Davis, Sr. and Mary Muldrew (Davis) in Texarkana, AR.
Later, as a child, Vera moved with her family to Idabel. At a young age, she joined with the Springhill Baptist Church. She attended and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1967. She met and married Peter C. Hawkins and during their union, they raised three children: Roosevelt A. Murray, Jr., Michael R. Murray (Gulley), and Vanessa (Hawkins) Burris.
Vera was preceded in death by both parents, Jeremiah Davis, Sr. and Mary (Davis) Lollis; husband, Peter C. Hawkins; son, John L. Hawkins; brother, Richard Jerome Davis; sister, Jessie Mae Davis; son-in-law, William H. Burris, and great-grandson, Cason Collins.
She leaves to cherish her memory:
Sons - Roosevelt H. Murray, Jr. and Michael R. Murray, Idabel
Daughter - Vanessa (Hawkins) Burris, Idabel
Sisters - Shirley Cotton and Thelma Johnson, both of Idabel; Rosie (Kenneth) Beasley, Kansas City, MO; Jeremiah Davis, Jr., Idabel; Roy L. Davis, Las Vegas, NV; Jerry L. Davis (Laresse Murphy), Idabel.
She also leaves 10 grandchildren who will remember her fondly:
Adreena Ford (Justin), ShaMichael Murray (Jordan), Jeremy Compton, Allen "A.M." Murray, Kameshia "Kee Kee" Murray, Valarie Murray, Nyeshia Murray, Aaliyah Murray, Valicia "Kiana" Burris, and William "Tyrell" Burris. Also, four great-grandchildren.
Also cherishing her memory are daughters-in-law, Barbara Ann Murray and Sharvalle Murray, Aunt Thelma Morgan, Venice, CA ; as well as a host of other relatives and friends, including special friends, Tissie Pondexter and Dollie Johnson, both of Idabel.
