Velma Hurd

December 29, 1940 — December 20, 2025

Mt Pleasant

Velma Louise Hurd was born on December 29, 1940, in Clarksville, Texas, to the late Nicholas Hurd and Annie Baty Hurd. At an early age, she accepted Christ and became a faithful member of Shiloh Baptist Church, where her spiritual foundation was firmly rooted.

Velma received her education in the Clarksville Public School District and graduated from Clarksville High School. She was known for her strong work ethic and dedication, having worked at Colorado National Bank and See’s Candy Store.

Velma truly had a heart of gold. She was fearless, loving, and carefree, and she embraced life with joy and independence. She took pride in caring for herself and especially enjoyed taking long walks down the road. Her favorite pastimes included cooking, sewing, gardening, growing plants, shopping, and enjoying sweets. She also loved doing hair, listening to music, watching her favorite soap operas, and spending quality time socializing with her family.

Velma was a devoted mother to her five children: Hiram Hurd, Anita Hurd Smith, Gerald Hurd (preceded her in death), Lakisha Taylor, and Barbara Bjorn.

She was preceded in death by her siblings: Agnes Hurd, Ada Lee Crawford, Christine Taylor, Jeraline Taylor, Magnolia Jackson, Dorthy Johnson, and John Hurd. She is survived by her loving brothers, Tom Hurd and Nicholas Hurd.

The sun set on the life of Velma Louise Hurd on December 20, 2025, in Mount Pleasant, Texas, as she peacefully passed from this life into her eternal rest.

Velma’s love, strength, and gentle spirit will forever live on in the hearts of her family and all who were blessed to know her.
