Sue Carland Scales was born October 15, 1955 in Idabel, Oklahoma the second of nine children. She passed away May 4, 2016 in Texarkana, Texas.
Sue became a faithful member of The Westside First Baptist Church at an early age where she continued to be a member until her passing.
She was a very giving person, and would give whatever she had even if she really did not have it to give. Sue was very creative in many areas, but her specialties were cooking, making flower arrangements, and sewing. Sue was also helpful when others needed assistance with filling out forms, making programs, etc. One thing about Sue, she would speak her mind, in order, or out of order, but when she knew she was out of order, would say in a joking manner, "Be quiet, Sue!" Sue loved her family members dearly and thought the most of them, especially her daughter, Dawn Blaire, whom she was overly protective.
She also loved children, and her calling was working with them. Sue worked as a Teacher's Assistant at the Idabel Public School system until her health failed. But her health did not stop her calling, as she would take up time with neighborhood children, giving them odd jobs to earn money, and taking them to church on Sundays.
Sue graduated from Gray High School in 1973. During that timeframe, she became the first Black Junior High cheerleader, which was an accolade she greatly cherished. She later went to college and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration.
Sue is preceded in death by her father Edward Rodgers, and one brother Allen Ramone.
She leaves to cherish her memories: Mother, Velma Hopkins, Idabel, OK, one daughter Dawn Hurd of the home, seven sisters: Frankie Scales, Idabel, OK., Marilyn Walls, Desoto, TX, Vickie Scales, Idabel, OK, Donna Scales, Dallas, TX, Charlotte Braxton, Idabel, OK, Sharetha Boyd, El Reno, OK, Thelma Johnson, Dallas, TX, four brothers: Hurles Scales and Lester Scales of Idabel, OK, Stevie Bailey, Allen, TX, and Clifton Rodgers, Dallas, TX., a host of aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and outstanding companion, Donald Ray Hurd.
Funeral arrangements are set for 10 am Saturday May 14, 2016 at Westside First Baptist Church with Rev. Russel Latson officiating, and Pastor Michael Massey Eulogist.
Interment will follow at Williamston Cemetery, Idabel.
