Ricky Marcellus Alford

December 7, 1973 — October 11, 2016

Known to many as "Big Rick" and others as "Homie," Ricky Marcellus Alford returned to rest in the Lord's arms on Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at McCurtain Memorial Hospital in Idabel, OK. He was born December 7, 1973 in DeQueen, AR to Clyde Alford  Jr. and Charlesetta Alford.

Ricky grew up in Broken Bow, OK where he attended Broken Bow High School, graduating in the class of 1995.  He relocated to Tulsa, OK and graduated from Tulsa Welding School. He was also a master chef at Waffle House in Tulsa, OK. Ricky worked hard to put smiles on his customers' faces. As a result, he made life-long connections across the entire restaurant. He was exceptionally proud of being the provider for his family and close friends; thus, he developed a well-known practice of flashing his paycheck in the air.  His charisma was an integral part of his life. His ability to lift other's spirits even in their weakest moments and evoke laughter from a person after a long day on the job was truly characteristic of his "love for others".

He was a lifetime member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in Broken Bow, OK, and was well-known in the community. He enjoyed fishing, basketball, singing, and spending time with his beloved children. While it is easy to remember how diabetes took over Ricky's life; it is far much more important to look back on his strength and courage during his battle with this disease. He fought valiantly to be a part of many pastimes, holidays, and family gatherings. Even in moments of uncertainty, he wore bravery like a plate of armor, and inspired the youth who looked up to him to persevere through the hard battles. Now, he is revered as a friend, son, father, brother, but above all, "Champion."

Ricky was preceded in death by his grandparents: Clyde Sr. and Hazel M. Alford and Charles and Bessie J. Dixon; and aunts and uncles.

Ricky's memory will forever be cherished by: Parents, Clyde Jr. and Charlesetta Alford of Broken Bow, OK; sister, Vivian Alford of Dallas, TX; Brother, Dedric Alford of Tulsa, OK; three children, Kennetra Wiggins-Alford, Julius Alford, DeUndrae Alford, all of Tulsa, OK; one grandson,  Khyren Wiggins of Tulsa, OK; mother of his children, Artesha Wiggins of Tulsa, OK; and a niece, nephew, and host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

The family will receive visitors on Friday, October 21, 2016 at Nunley Funeral Home in Idabel, OK, 6-8 P.M.
