Ratha Mae Morris

August 10, 1927 — June 17, 2013

Ratha Mae (Edd) Morris, also known as "Booger" was born on August 10, 1927 in Idabel, Oklahoma to the late Rev. Mitchell and Sarah (Dismuke) Edd. She passed away Monday, June 17, 2013 at McCurtain Memorial Hospital in Idabel.

She united with the St. Paul Baptist Church at an early age. After moving to Tom, Oklahoma she united with the Bright Star Baptist Church which later became Community Baptist Church, under the leadership of Rev. Roy Barlow. She was an active member and the Mother of the Church until her death.

She attended school in Foreman, Arkansas. She worked at Unity School for many years. Ratha met and married Arthur "Baby Ruth" Morris in 1949 and to this union nine children were born. She worked at Pilgrim's Pride from which she retired after 23 years of service. After her retirement, Ratha acquired the nickname of "Highway 259" because she was always on the go! She enjoyed going to the Tom Senior Citizen's Center on Thursday's to visit with her friends in the community. She enjoyed watching basketball, cooking big meals, gardening, talking on the phone, and keeping up with her children and grandchildren.

Ratha was very loving, happy and enjoyed helping others and seeing them smile.

She is preceded in death by: her parents; 13 siblings; and her beloved husband of 58 years.

Mrs. Morris leaves to cherish her memories: five sons, Johnny Hooks of Tom, Arthur Morris and wife Arnetter Morris of Broken Bow, Oklahoma, Mitchell Morris and wife LaDonna, L.C. Morris and wife Marian both of DeQueen, Arkansas, and Rodney Morris and wife Debbie of Dallas, Texas; four daughters, Bobbie Nelson and husband George of Lockesburg, Arkansas, Rena Hooks and Vera Arbuckle, both of Foreman Arkansas, and Florine Miller of Millerton, Oklahoma; twenty-one grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, one sister, Gladys Griffin of Tom, Oklahoma; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and friends.

Funeral services are set for 2:00 PM Sunday June 23, 2013 at the Haworth Auditorium.

Interment will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery Tom, Oklahoma.

Family visitation is scheduled for Friday June 21, 2013 from 3 – 5 at the funeral home.
