Ples Jones, Jr., was born to Dr. P J Jones and Clara Shoals on April 11 th , 1944, in Los Angeles, California, and raised in Idabel, Oklahoma.
Ples graduated high school, attended mechanic school, and then joined the U.S. Army along with his brother, Irvin C. Jones, in 1964. After his service in the military, he began working with his Uncle Porter finishing concrete. He traveled throughout New Mexico to Arizona becoming a Union Member and Concrete Foreman. Ples settled in Tucson, Arizona buying his first home, having children, and getting married. In the early 80's he opened the Ponderosa Bar, one of the first black-owned bars in Tucson. Ples truly enjoyed running his bar and all the people who came through the door. A tragic accident in 1995 halted his plans for expanding the Ponderosa Bar. He returned to Idabel and with his brothers raised herds of cattle as he continued to travel between Idabel and Tucson frequently. He moved back to Tucson in 2018 where he joined his daughters, grandchildren, and long-time friends until his peaceful passing on November 3 rd , 2021. Ples is loved by many and will be greatly missed.
Ples is pre-deceased by his parents and brothers, Birdle Hill and Charles Jones.
Ples is survived by his brothers, Irvin C. Jones (Evorn Jones), Alvis Hill, and Trumer Hill. Daughters, Delicia Cooke, Lisi Gwarzo (Quintin Gwarzo), and Ember Jones. 11 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
