Odell Hunter

November 26, 1921 — December 19, 2015

Odell Hunter was born in Tom, Oklahoma November 26, 1921 to the late Bob and Lizetta (Liggins) Hunter. On November 12, 1949 he married the late Betty Jean Owens of Oklahoma City. He had six children: Barbara Gray, Donald Ray, Odell Jr., Michael, Tami Renee and Robert Anthony and a precious "Angel Baby" whom died at birth.

Odell loved fishing, hunting, dogs, horses, horse racing, baseball and growing food. No matter where he lived, you would find a garden of vegetables and at least one dog. He believed in hard work, treating others with respect and grace. He had a heart to help anyone who was in need. One thing you can know, he never met a stranger. He genuinely cared for people.

Odell served in the US Army circa 1943-1946 in the South Pacific. After this service he worked for Civil Service for forty years supporting his family and his beloved hobbies.

Odell was preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Lizetta Liggins- Hunter; his wife of 31 years Betty Jean Owens; his brother Robert (Pete); his sister Odessa Hunter-Nero; and his daughter Barbara Gray Matthews; sisters Ida Mae Jones; Vera Bailey and Lonnie Bea Brown; and his very best friend Edward Harley.

Odell leaves to honor and cherish his memory his sons; Donald Ray, Odell Jr., Michael, Tami Rene, and Robert Anthony; Two daughter-in laws Harriet Althea(Odell Jr.) and Greta Ann (Michael); Along with these, eleven grandchildren; Nevelyn Denise, Rashidi Omari, Shaylla Starr, Isis Alexandria, Jada Simone, Leslie Tiara, Loren Simon, Lester La'Vell Jr., Jessica Lynn, Jasmine Ivana and Kasch Na'jey; Four great-grandchildren; Lonzaya, Jax, Trhee and Hunter; Last, but not least, the many nephews, nieces, cousins and friends that so dearly loved him.

Mr. Hunter maybe viewed Sunday afternoon December 27th from 4 pm until closing.

Viewing the morning of his service will be from 10:00 am to 11:00 am December 28, 2015 at Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church.

Funeral Services will start at 11 am December 28th, 2015 at Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Raymond Latson officiating.

Interment will follow at Williamston Cemetery, Idabel
