Mitchell Murphy, Jr. was called home to be with the LORD on Monday, the 23rd of July in 2018. He was born to Mitchell Murphy Sr. and Alene Paysinger Murphy on February 27, 1947 in DeKalb, TX.
He attended school and graduated from Marvin Pynes High School in DeKalb, TX. Upon graduation, he was drafted into the United States Army, where he served his country in the Vietnam War from 1965-1968. During his duties as an active soldier, he received several medals: Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, National Defense Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and several Rifle medals.
Mitchell loved the LORD first, followed by his love for his family. His grandchildren were his pride and joy; he was a very "proud" grandpa. He gave nicknames to each of his nieces and nephews that followed them into adulthood. He loved working on cars, going fishing and sitting under the shade tree listening to the radio while reminiscing about the "good old days." He looked forward to attending his yearly class reunions and talking with his classmates.
Mitchell joined Springhill Missionary Baptist Church and accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mitchell Sr. and Alene Murphy, one son Elex Johnson, and three brothers Roscoe, William Earl, and Raymond.
Mitchell leaves to cherish his memories: Wife, Dollie Murphy. Daughters, Vickie (Don) Betts of Arlington, TN, Valarie (Johnny) Rayford of Clinton, MD, and Regina (Eddie) Miller of Idabel, OK. Sisters, Bessie Green and Ruthie Ford, both of DeKalb, TX. Brothers, Sammie T. Morine of Mandeville, AR and Fredrick Murphy of DeKalb, TX. Also, 7 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, and friends.
