Melvin DeWayne Pondexter, 46, passed away on Tuesday, May 1, 2018 in Idabel, Oklahoma. He was born on August 20, 1971 to Tissie Pondexter and the late Willie Pondexter, Sr. in Idabel.
Melvin attended Idabel High School where he was a member of the Idabel Warriors track team coached by Skippy Smith. He graduated in 1990. He loved working on cars and coaching little league football. His teams won the Senior League Super Bowl for three years.
He was preceded in death by his father; brothers, Roy Pondexter and Willie Pondexter Jr.; and grandparents, Roy and Thelma Daniels.
Remembering Melvin with love are: Son, Carey "CJ" Humphrey, Jr.; Mother, Tissie Pondexter. Sisters, Darlene, Betty (Michael) Dixon, Amanda (John) Wells, Heather (Marvin) Beard, and Joyce Wells, all of Idabel; and Cora (Reggie) Thomas of San Bernardino, California. Aunts, Helen Harrell of Arizona; Louise Branch of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Bobbie Daniels and Anna Daniels of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Alma Smith, Mary Ramsey, Martha Van, all of Idabel. Uncle, Leroy Daniels of Idabel, Oklahoma. Also surviving and remembering him fondly are a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The funeral service will be held at 1 O'clock PM on Saturday, May 12, 2018 at Lynn Lane Church of Christ. Brother Desmond Walls will officiate.
Interment will follow at Williamston Cemetery, Idabel.
