MacArthur Dixon, a devoted family man and respected member of his community, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, at 10:30 pm at Mercy Emergency Health in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Born on July 13, 1942, in the Red Banks community of Hooks, Texas, Mac lived a life defined by faith, hard work, and commitment to those he loved.
From a young age, Mac demonstrated a profound devotion to his faith, coming to Christ at the Red Bank Baptist Church in Hooks, Texas. His dedication to the church continued throughout his life, culminating in his service as a Deacon at Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Wright City, Oklahoma. His spiritual journey was a guiding light for many and reflected the depth of his character and kindness.
Mac's working years were marked by diligence and a strong work ethic. He spent many years employed at Lone Star Steel in Texarkana, Texas, followed by a tenure at the KCS Lumber Company in Idabel, Oklahoma. In later years, he took pride in running his own lawn service business until his retirement. His practical skills and dedication earned him the respect and admiration of colleagues and community members alike.
Known affectionately as Mac, he was a beloved figure around McCurtain County. Those who knew him fondly remember his love for fishing, basketball, and the treasured moments spent with family. These passions were a vital part of his life, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know him.
McArthur Dixon is survived by his children: Sheila Dunlap (DeWayne), Mack Dixon (Sandy), and Gary Dixon of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Brenda Dixon and Joyce Nolen of Idabel, Oklahoma; Vivian Threadgill of Wright City, Oklahoma; Michael Dixon of Idabel; Timothy Dixon (Shawanna) of Texarkana, Arkansas; Arthur Dixon of Dallas, Texas; as well as Clyde Nolen (LaDonna) and Barnard Nolen of Wright City, Oklahoma. Sister, Betty Maddox Minneapolis Minesoda and one brother Mert Dixon Wichita Kansas He also leaves behind one sister-in-law, Lea Herrod of Idabel, Oklahoma. His legacy continues through an extensive family that includes 31 grandchildren, 60 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren, along with numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, and a multitude of relatives and friends who will cherish his memory.
Mac was preceded in death by his parents, Mert Dixon and Evie Perkins Dixon; his first wife, Darnell Dunlap (Dixon); his second wife, Doris Jean Green (Dixon); three brothers: Melvin “Boot” Dixon, Earnest “Honey” Dixon, and Roosevelt Dixon; three sisters: Loretta Gates, Tilda Sims, and Marilyn Range; two sons, Ricky and Floyd Dixon; three grandsons, Floyd, Robert, and Ricky; one granddaughter, LaTisha; and two daughters-in-law, Betty and Leatrice Dixon.
A funeral service to honor and remember MacArthur Dixon will be held on Saturday, May 2, 2026, 3:00 pm at Bypass Church of Christ, located at 120 W Lincoln Rd, Idabel, Oklahoma. Family, friends, and members of the community are invited to gather to pay their respects and celebrate the life of a man who touched so many lives through his faith, love, and unwavering dedication.
Interment will follow at Beaver Dam Cemetery Dekalb, TX.
Mac Dixon’s presence in the lives of those around him was a blessing. He will be remembered for his steadfast faith, his commitment to family, and the warmth he brought to every room. His memory will remain a source of comfort and inspiration for all who knew him.
