Obituary for Mary V. Johnson-Jackson

Mary V. (Johnson) Jackson passed away peacefully at home on September 25, 2021. On December 17, 1945, Mary was born in Tulsa, OK, to Garfield and Jeanetta Johnson. She was reared in the segregated schools in Broken Bow, OK. She furthered her studies at Langston University. She returned home with the intent to raise her oldest daughter as a single mom. Shortly after that, she met the love of her life, Edward Jackson. They were married on October 19, 1974.

Through the years, Mary worked for Weyerhaeuser Companies and Kiamichi Youth Services.  She worked at McCurtain Memorial Hospital as a ward clerk but found her calling as a phlebotomist after transferring to the lab department.

She leaves to cherish her memory, husband Ed, of the home; children, Garnetta (James) Sweet, Courtney Jackson, Corey (Tammy) Jackson, Naji (Ken) Morrow of Minneapolis, MN. Sisters Sweet Othello Jones of Seattle, WA and Corine Pettus of San Francisco, CA. Ten grandchildren, two great-grandchildren. Along with a host of family and friends.
