Martha Ausmus

Martha Lavone Ausmus, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother went to be with her Lord and Savior on February 12, 2023. She passed away peacefully at her home in Idabel, surrounded by her family. She was 84. She was born to Marley & Stella Collier on April 25, 1938, in Haworth, OK.

She graduated with honors from Haworth High School, Class of 1956 and went on to graduate from Southeastern Oklahoma State University Class of 1971 with a degree in education. She taught school in Denison, Texas for 22 years, retiring in June 1998. Martha loved teaching, playing the piano, being with family and friends and attending church. She was a devout Christian and always had a kind word for anyone she met. Her smile would light up a room.

Martha was a loving wife to her surviving husband Bill Ausmus for over seventeen years. They were opposites but in a way that completed each other. Martha was always up for an adventure and learned to enjoy motorcycle rides, camping and even cats. Willie will miss curling up on her lap every evening. Martha is survived by her loving children, Jack (Jamie) Vinyard; Rhonda (David) Dean; Jeff Ausmus; Gerri Thomas; Kyle Ausmus and Kim (Bill) Garrison. She is also survived by her two sisters, Melba Johnson and Reta Bolen and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces & nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband Jack Vinyard, and her second husband Harold Killough. Martha was a member of the Forest Hill Baptist Church where she loved singing and playing piano. We always said she was ready to play and pray at any time!

Please join us for a memorial service honoring Martha Saturday, February 18th, 2023, at Forest Hill Baptist Church, 1102 Forest Grove, Idabel, Ok 74745.

Visitation will be held at the church from 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. with services to follow from 2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. and burial immediately thereafter at Forest Hill Cemetery.

Funeral services are being provided by Nunley's Funeral Home, 3 NW Bois D'Arc., Idabel, OK and viewing will be Friday, the 17 ^th beginning at 10:00 a.m.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you please donate to the Forest Hill Baptist Church in Martha's memory at Idabel National Bank, 1201 SE Washington Street, Idabel, OK  74745.
