Marjorie was born to Luchious and Carrie Bell Washington in Idabel, OK on November 8, 1939. "Margie" as she was affectionately called by others, attended Oak Grove Elementary School and Booker T. Washington High School. She transitioned from her earthly life on December 16, 2019 at Paris Regional Medical Center surrounded by her loving family.
Margie accepted Christ at a young age. She united with Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church where she remained a faithful member until health restraints prevented her from attending. During her years at Oak Grove Church, she served faithfully in several capacities, including but not limited to Adult Sunday School Teacher, one of her favorite ministries.
Anyone who truly knew Margie knows that she dearly loved her family. She would give her last, if it meant helping them. One of Margie's greatest loves was her grandchildren. Her children joked amongst themselves that once she became a grandmother or (Mam-maw) as her grandchildren affectionately called her – "she completely forgot about us". Oh how we remember the many family gatherings when she would cook tons of food and we all would sit around eating, laughing, joking, enjoying and simply loving each other. Another tidbit about Margie…..she was a very firm person who said what she meant and meant what she said. Even during her health challenges, she was vigilant in maintaining her independence. We will always remember her culinary skills, (especially those homemade sweet potato pies, peach cobblers & chicken and dumplings), her unique ability to give advice and be a confidant, her sense of humor and her quick wit.
Throughout her years, she was employed in many capacities, which included food service, personal care assistant, and lastly childcare provider at The Learning Tree – where she loved and taught her "other children".
She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Robert, three sisters Zelma, Irene and Ruby and her mother-in-law Odessa Hunter Nero and two brothers-in-law Herman Hunter and Benjamin Hunter.
Her memory will be forever cherished by her loving husband, Charles of the home, her daughters Karen Andrews and Carrie Robbins (Bruce) both of Idabel, OK, Tonnette Washington of Houston, TX and son Charles Tyrone Burris (Lia) of Allen, TX. She is also survived by her five grandchildren RaShad Andrews, Eric Robbins, Cedrick Robbins, Samantha Burris and Rodney Ware, along with her siblings Sephus Washington, Arnett Washington (Doris), sisters Mary Duckett, Earnestine Washington (James), Earma Hinds (Calvin). Her sisters-in-law include Doris Thompson, Gwendolyn Campbell (Henry), Brenda Cubit (Ardis), Sheila Foremen, Rita Hall (Joel) and brothers-in-law Andrew Hunter and Dewayne Hunter. Also left to cherish her memory are her great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Special mention to her very spoiled "great military grand dog" – Syber (who she named) and who now resides in Greece with her oldest grandson RaShad.
Funeral service is set for 2:30 Saturday December 21, 2019 at Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Raymond Latson officiating.
Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery.
