Kevin Maurice Lewis, affectionately known to all as "Pookie" age 62, a beloved resident of Idabel, Oklahoma, was born on March 20, 1963, and passed away peacefully at his home in Idabel on February 26, 2026, and went to be with the Lord. His life was characterized by immense kindness, joy, and the simple pleasures of everyday interactions, left a profound impact on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A proud graduate of Idabel High School, Kevin enriched his life as a dedicated member of the Idabel Special Olympics track team. He took pride in his accomplishments, embodying the spirit of determination and perseverance. Throughout his years, Kevin became known for his gentle demeanor, exceptional cooking skills, and ability to bring laughter into any gathering. His presence was a gift that brightened every room, creating lasting memories for friends and family alike.
Kevin is survived by his loving family, who will forever cherish his memory: his sister, Octavia Lewis of Idabel, OK; his brother, Wayne Lewis of Okmulgee, OK; his aunt, Norma Jean Sanders of Arlington, TX; his nephew, Terry (Gail) Lewis of Idabel, OK; and his niece, Debra Jackson of Kansas City, MO. He is also remembered fondly by his nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, extended family, and a vast network of friends who loved him dearly.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Edna Lewis Mendenhall; father, John Lewis; brother, Clarence Lewis; and sister, Zelmarie Johnson.
A Funeral Service to honor Kevin’s life will be held on March 7, 2026, starting at 2:00 PM at Westside 1st Baptist Church in Idabel, OK.
Kevin Lewis will be deeply missed, but his legacy of warmth and kindness will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
Interment will follow at Williamston Cemetery.
