Our beloved Joyce Marie Williams - Griffin, was a woman whose light shined brightly in the lives of all who knew her. She was born on September 19, 1973, in Shreveport, Louisiana, to Versa Mae and Buford Williams and was raised in Foreman, Arkansas.
Joyce's journey through life was one of dedication, warmth, and unwavering love. She attended Foreman High School, graduating in 1992, before pursuing higher education at Grambling State University. Later, she earned her degree in Mortuary Science from the University of Arkansas at Hope, a testament to her passion for serving others with care and compassion. She also made an impact as a life insurance agent, working with various companies to help families secure their futures.
From an early age, Joyce's faith was her foundation. She united with St. Matthews Baptist Church as a child and, after marrying the love of her life, Charles Griffin Jr., on February 23, 2013, she continued her spiritual journey at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor T.J. Roberson.
Joyce was not only a devoted wife and mother but also a pillar of her community. She was an esteemed member of Starlight Chapter 1410 Eastern Stars, where she held the title of Associate Matron and she poured her heart into mentoring young athletes as the coach of the Texarkana Storm softball team, proudly watching her daughter, Rachel, shine as pitcher.
Her presence was a gift full of joy, laughter, and boundless energy. Joyce was always on the move, embracing life with an adventurous spirit. She loved roller coasters, traveling, family gatherings, and yellow, which reflected her bright and vibrant soul. Known for her quick wit and infectious laughter, she had a way of making everyone around her feel at ease. She was a source of strength, wisdom, and unconditional love and an incredible wife, mother, sister, role model, and friend.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Versa Mae and Buford Williams, along with a host of beloved aunts and uncles.
She leaves behind a family filled with cherished memories: her devoted husband, Charles Griffin Jr.(Texarkana, TX); her God-given parent, Ola M. Lathan (Houston, TX); her brother, Jerome Williams (Raleigh, North Carolina), and his children, Chloe, Devin, and Kellan Williams; her loving children, JaTauria Lathan (Houston, TX), Jaelon Williams, Rachel Griffin, Charlonda Griffin, Blake Griffin, Torey Baker, and Julian Burt; and nine treasured grandchildren (Texarkana, TX) who brought her endless joy.
