John Hunter Jr. passed away early Tuesday, August 21, 2018 at McCurtain Memorial Hospital, Idabel. He was born April 28, 1951 in Tom, Oklahoma to John Hunter Sr. and Stella Mae Burris Hunter.
He attended Pine Ridge Elementary School in Tom, OK until he moved to Idabel in 1961 and enrolled in Booker T. Washington Elementary; which he attended until ninth grade.
In 1958 John joined the Bright Star Baptist Church Tom, OK under the leadership of the late T.T. Threadgill. After moving to Idabel, he united with the Oliver Branch Baptist Church and later as an adult joined the Spencer Chapal Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Lee S. Pickens where he was ordained as a deacon in 2004. John later moved his membership to Oak Grove.
John Hunter was a lover of people and never met a stranger. He loved talking, playing dominos, cooking for his friends, and going to the lake to fish before his health failed him.
He worked for several companies in Idabel, but the one he loved most was the 17 years he worked at Idabel Coca Cola Bottling Co. He later moved to Oklahoma City where he was employed with Lee Way Trucking Co. While in Oklahoma City, John met and married Frankie Perkins.
John was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Ollie Mae Burris Dewberry and Georgia Mae Hunter Forte; brother, Henry Duckett Jr; and daughter, Amberia Boyles.
Cherishing his memory are - Sons: LaDale Allen of Oklahoma City, LaMichael Allen of Idabel, and Cameron Boyles of South Carolina. Daughters: Andrie Boyles of Tulsa, Yvonne Allen of Oklahoma City, and Demetrice Allen of Idabel. Sisters: Betty Hunter Johnson of Idabel, Mattie Hunter Irwin (Ronnie) of Oklahoma City, and Lisa Threadgill (Jerry) of Tom. Brothers: Willis Hunter and Whalion Dewberry Jr. (Deon), both of Idabel. Grandchildren; Sierrah Hooks, Navaria Allen, and Ladadria Allen, all of Oklahoma City. A loving daughter-in-law Shondria Hooks of Oklahoma City. And host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
