John (Jay Boy) Henry Burris

John Henry Burris was born November 6, 1942 to the late Timothy and Isabella Burris in Tom, McCurtain County, Oklahoma. John met and married Leona Smith and to this union one daughter was added.
John attended school in McCurtain County, Oklahoma. he worked in several different occupations during his life until his health began to fail. He joined the New Dora Baptist Church in Tom, Oklahoma at an early age.
John had three brothers and five sisters, of which two brothers (Vel V. "Skinnie" Burris and William Burris) and two sisters (Bobbie Matthews and Louise Burris) precede him in death.
He departed this life on Friday, November 2, 2012 at his home.
He leaves to cherish memory: his wife, Leona Burris of Idabel; one daughter, Stephanie Smith of Texarkana, Texas; three grandchildren, James Smith of Idabel, John Smith and Desire Smith, both of Texarkana, Texas; one great granddaughter, Alia Smith of Idabel; three sisters, Dianne Burris of Foreman, Arkansas, Anita Cooper and husband Vaster and Pearlie Mae Burris of Idabel; one brother, Thurman Burris of Lumber Bridge, NC.; two uncles, John L. Williams of El Paso, Texas and J.D. Williams of Tom, OK.; three special friends, Earnest Easter, Rickey Bagsby and Edna Smith. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Graveside service is set for 11 AM Saturday November 10, 2012 at Della Simpson Cemetery. Tom, OK., with Pastor Raymond Latson officiating.
