**Obituary of Jeffrey (Jeff) Murphy**
On March 16, 1945, in Foreman, Arkansas, a cherished soul entered the world — Jeffrey (Jeff) Murphy, born to Robert Calvin (RC) Murphy and Merle Williams Murphy. Jeff will be warmly remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He peacefully departed from this life on February 26, 2026, in Dallas, Texas, finding his eternal resting place after enduring health complications.
From a young age, Jeff devoted his life to the Lord, a commitment he reaffirmed later in his adulthood. His educational journey began at Booker T. Washington High School, culminating in his graduation in 1963. Answering the call of duty, he enlisted in the United States Army on September 14, 1965, proudly serving until his honorable discharge on September 13, 1971.
On December 1, 1969, Jeff married the love of his life, Betty, and together they would celebrate the renewal of their vows after 25 beautiful years, sharing an impressive 56 years of marriage. As a family, they nurtured and raised three children: Yvette, Darrell, and Steve, creating a legacy of love that will endure.
Jeff’s professional life was marked by his unwavering dedication to the City of Idabel, where he held various roles while also running his own lawn care service. Even after retiring from his city responsibilities, he embraced an active life filled with meaningful pursuits. He became well-known in his community for his unparalleled cornbread dressing, and he was always ready and willing to extend a helping hand wherever it was needed.
A committed member of Rose Hill Baptist Church, Jeff's faith was exemplified through his 30 years of service as Superintendent of Sunday School, teacher, head usher, and member of the Usher Board. In recognition of his devotion, he was honored with a plaque in 2025. In addition, he served as a deacon for over 40 years, contributing selflessly until his health began to fail. His role as Secretary for the Southeast District Brotherhood and his participation in the Walter Cade Workshop Convention further underscored his commitment to faith and community. Jeff brought joy to church functions as the MC, always starting with a whimsical story that brought laughter to all.
Jeff’s life, reflective of his late wife Betty’s spirit, embodied love, service, perseverance, and profound faith. He is preceded in death by his beloved parents, his wife Betty just a month prior, brothers Robert and David, sisters Lorraine Gray and Wanda Walker, along with several in-laws, aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.
He is survived by his beloved sons, Darrell and Steve Murphy of Dallas, Texas; daughter Yvette French of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; one brother, Roger Murphy of Dallas, Texas; three sisters, Ruby Porter and Sylvia Murphy of California, and Twida Murphy of Dallas, Texas; sister-in-law Joyce (Joseph) McGlon of Midwest City, Oklahoma; brother-in-law Charles (Patricia) Hill of Idabel; ten grandchildren, twenty-seven great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and a multitude of nieces, nephews, and extended family who will cherish his memory.
