Henry Samuel Johnson, Sr. passed away, Saturday, July 14, 2012 at the age of 83, in Amarillo, Texas. Henry was born February 17, 1929 in Idabel, Oklahoma to Lono and Willie Johnson.
Mr. Johnson was a resident of Oklahoma City, until his health began to fail him and he moved to Amarillo. Henry united with the Oak Grove Baptist Church in Idabel at an early age. He and Willena Beasley were united in marriage on July 7, 1947.
After relocating to Oklahoma City, Henry became a member of Pure Church Ministry under the direction of Pastor Collins. Henry later worked for Mixion Brothers and Reynold & Wilson Sawmills in Idabel. Henry had his PhD as a farmer. Henry worked as a dairy and cattle worker. He also spent some time in
California working as a service station attendant, and then later worked the docks at Leeway Trucking Company OKC. Henry enjoyed cooking, watching boxing matches, fishing, gardening, and various other activities.
Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by: his parents, Lono and Willie; wife Willena; two sons, Henry Jr. and Henry Lee; daughter, Lillie; two brothers, Sam and Junior Lee; five sisters, Rena Mae, Bessie, O'Nita, Clara Mae, and Alma Mae.
Henry leaves to cherish his memory: five sons, Claybon Johnson of Oklahoma City, Felix Jones and wife Freda of Kansas City, Missouri, Donell Jones and wife Minnie of Idabel, Vincent Johnson of Lawton, and Sammy Johnson of Oklahoma City; three daughters, Betty Baker and husband Elma of Oklahoma City, Arbidean Johnson of Idabel, Sherrie Merriweather and husband Robert of Amarillo; daughter-in-law, Betty Johnson of Idabel; brother Robert Jones and wife Jeneda of Ardmore; three sisters, Annie Mae Belcher of Detroit, Michigan, Elma Collins and husband, and Irene Deering all of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; along with a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services are set for 11 am Saturday July 21, 2012 at Westside First Baptist Church with Brother Robert Cotton Eulogist, Rev. Raymond Latson will officiate.
Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery, Idabel Oklahoma.
