Gordon Lamar Norwood

Gordon, age 67, departed this life on October 29, 2023 at Saint Francis Hospital in Tulsa Oklahoma.

He attended Gray High School (Idabel High School) and Central High School in Tulsa, Oklahoma.  Gordon graduated from Central High School in 1972.  After graduating from High School, he attended Oklahoma Christian College in Edmond, Oklahoma.  While in college, Gordon participated in several musical activities and did Missionary work in Trinidad. He graduated from Oklahoma Christian College with a Bachelor's Degree.

After graduating from college, he worked as a head start coordinator in Okla. City.  Later he moved to Tulsa with his family and attended the Northside Church of Christ.  His employment in Tulsa included manager of Daffodil's Custom Framing and Art Shop, House Manager for Goodwill Industries Special Needs for Adults, and Volunteer Coordinator for Hospice Care Facility.  Gordon moved back to Idabel and became a member of the Lynn Lane Church Of Christ, where he served as song leader and participated in various other church activities.  He also served as Curator for TheGallery at 11 North Central. At TheGallery, Gordon organized public events for book signings and recruited artists to display and discuss their artwork during these events.

Gordon loved baking and entertaining.  During this time of the year, he would decorate for Christmas utilizing all of his nutcrackers, Christmas villages, and decorating the Christmas tree.  He enjoyed spending time with people and taught piano lessons for many years.  Gordon was encouraging and inspirational to most people, and was known as the "social butterfly" of the family.

Gordon is survived by his siblings: Roy Lee Norwood and Charlie Mae Norwood Thornton of Tulsa, Oklahoma;  Jimmie Norwood of Idabel, Oklahoma; and Osborne Celestain, Jr.  of Owasso, Oklahoma.  He also leaves behind several nephews, nieces, cousins and a host of friends who played important roles In his life.

The family take comfort in knowing that Gordon is now at peace.

His Funeral is set for 2:00 P.M. Thursday November 9th at the Bypass Church of Christ, Idabel, OK 74745.

Interment will follow at Williamston Cemetery.
