Gladys Valeree Castro Perry, 93 years old, passed away at Hill Nursing Home in Idabel, Oklahoma on Saturday, October 8, 2016. She had been a resident at the nursing home since 2006. She was born on December 30, 1922 to Robert and May Montgomery in Avery, Texas, the third of four girls. At age two, she and her family relocated to Shinewell, Oklahoma in the Redland Community. She attended school at Haworth, Oklahoma.
In July, 1943, she went on vacation with a friend to Salinas, California where she met her first husband, Alberto Castro. Two weeks later, they were married in Lordsburg, New Mexico. They moved back to Salinas where she was a homemaker. After her husband's death, she met and married William Perry. They continued to live in Salinas until his death in 2000. She then returned to McCurtain County and made her home in Idabel.
Valaree enjoyed doing crafts. She enjoyed sewing on the sewing machine bought for her 1950. She also loved ceramics. In her later years while a resident at the nursing home, she made bible covers out of plastic canvas.
She was preceded in death by her parents, first and second husbands, and sisters, Eunice Smith, Ruby Barnett, and Mary Oglesby.
Her memory will be forever cherished by her daughter, Bobbie Carmen Howell and husband, Randy of Idabel; granddaughter, Tracy Kasik and husband, Jeff of Citrus Heights, California; grandson, Ryan Howell and wife, Airi, of Rancho Santa Margarita, California; great-grandchildren, Jeffrey Kasik, Jr. of Torrence, California; Brittany Kasik of Sacramento, California, and Jessica Kasik of Citrus Heights, California; nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
No formal service is scheduled. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Interment will take place at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Salinas, California.
