Garlon E. Lesley, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather, peacefully passed away on March 13, 2026, at McCurtain Memorial Hospital in Idabel, Oklahoma. He was 92 years old. Born on July 29, 1933, in Sentinel, Oklahoma, to William Zack Lesley and Gertrude Speaks. Garlon lived a life marked by dedication to his family, his country, and his community.
At the tender age of 17, Garlon answered the call of duty by enlisting in the United States Marine Corps. His service during the Korean War as a Military Police officer demonstrated his courage and commitment to protecting the freedoms cherished by all. This chapter of his life stands as a testament to his unwavering sense of honor and duty.
Following his military service, Garlon embarked on a career as a professional truck driver. He was known for his steadfast work ethic and reliability, qualities that earned him respect throughout his career. After many years on the road, he retired at the age of 70, ready to embrace a new phase of life where he could focus more on his loved ones.
Garlon treasured his family deeply and remained closely connected to them throughout his life. He delighted in family dinners and gatherings, finding joy in the laughter and stories shared across generations. He was especially fond of Western movies, enjoyed dining out, and took great pleasure in helping others whenever he could. Above all, he cherished the special moments spent with his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and the unique joy brought by his great-great-grandchildren.
He lived independently until the age of 89, embodying a spirit of resilience and determination that inspired those around him. Even in his later years, Garlon's warmth and kindness shone brightly, making every encounter meaningful.
Garlon is survived by his devoted daughter, Joan Lesley of Broken Bow, Oklahoma; his son, Michael Eugene Lesley of Idabel, Oklahoma; and his daughter, Peggy Garden, and son-in-law Ollie Carden of Valliant, Oklahoma. He also leaves behind five loving grandchildren—Shawn Farley, Shane Farley, Shandon Farley, Chichota Carden, and Mary Carden—seven great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. His legacy lives on in each of these family members who carry forward his values and love.
A memorial service to honor Garlon's life will be held on Wednesday March 18, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Denison Cemetery located at 2201 E Washington Street in Idabel, Oklahoma. Family, friends, and community members are invited to gather and pay their respects to a man whose life touched many.
Garlon E. Lesley's remarkable journey through life was marked by service, family devotion, and a generous spirit. Though he has passed from this world, his memory endures in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. May he rest in eternal peace.
