Frankie Mae Scales

Frankie Mae Scales peacefully passed away on Thursday, June 4, at her home in Idabel, Oklahoma, surrounded by her loving son, Reginald.

Born on September 12, 1951, in McCurtain County, Frankie grew up in the countryside of Idabel. From a young age, she was deeply involved in her faith, attending Rosehill Baptist Church under Reverend Stinson and First Lady Lucy Stinson, and later joining First Baptist Church Westside with her grandmother Eskimo Scales. Under the guidance of Reverend B.J. Jones, she became an active member of the church choir, embracing her Baptist faith and accepting Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior.

Frankie was the eldest of nine children, three of whom are deceased. She graduated from Booker T. Washington High School with honors, including membership in the National Honor Society and State Honor Society. During her time there, she participated in the marching band as a snare drummer and majorette under the direction of Leonard Lincoln Blandon. She continued her education at Langston University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Health, Physical Education, and Recreation.

Throughout her life, Frankie sought to fulfill God’s purpose by helping families and individuals navigate life’s challenges, always keeping faith at the center of her work. She served as a Behavioral Counselor (Case Manager) at Southern Oklahoma Family Services, demonstrating her belief in the unity of family and unwavering dedication to others despite facing personal trials.

Frankie’s greatest joy came from her family: her two sons, Reginald Durand Scales and Sean Ramone Scales (deceased); her grandchildren Dayia Nicole Scales, Chantay Elizabeth Faye Lee, Darrin Durand Scales, Ryan DeSean Scales, and Reece D'Angelo Scales; and her great-grandchildren Jayden Lavon Broades, Camille Joy Edwards, Ivy Rian Scales, and Aniyah Carter, who is lovingly cared for by her son Reginald.

A service to honor Frankie’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday at the Bypass Church, located at 120 Lincoln Road, Idabel, Oklahoma. Interment will follow at Williamston Cemetery.

Frankie Mae Scales will be remembered for her faith, dedication to family, and compassionate spirit that uplifted those around her.
