Esther Cole, the last of eight children, all who precede her in death, was born to Rev. H.W. Ervin and Nannie Ervin (who also precede her in death) on October 2, 1919 in Idabel, Oklahoma. She was a bundle of joy, and was well loved and protected by her siblings.
Esther grew up in a loving Christian home, and accepted Christ at an early age. She was a member of the Westside First Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Russell Latson. She served faithfully in many capacities. She was the Mother of the Church, sang in the Senior Choir, worked as an Usher, served as the Church Clerk, District Secretary, and a Sunday School teacher. Esther was a God fearing woman and prayed constantly. She enjoyed singing the "Old One-Hundreds" and was very soul stirring with it!
Esther met and married Herbert Carson in 1939. To this union two children were born. Herbert preceded her in death. She later wed Archie Ted Cole who was the joy of her life and remained with him until death.
Esther spent her entire life in McCurtain County with the exception of visiting her family in various other states. She attended Booker T. Washington High School in Idabel for four years and later received her General Education Diploma. She excelled in dress making and was an excellent cook. She enjoyed entertaining her kinship and friends. Esther was also a domestic engineer, serving in many homes throughout the years. She was also a member of the Rising Sun #144 Order of the Eastern Star.
Esther leaves to mourn and cherish her fondest memories: three daughters, Velma Lewis, Marlene Cole, and Evelyn Cole all of Oklahoma City; three nephews, ten nieces, twenty grand and great grandchildren whom she loved so dear; a loving caretaker Ocie Crutchfield and a life-long friend, Laveda Moore.
Funeral arrangements are set for 1 pm Saturday June 7th, 2014 at First Baptist Westside.
Interment will follow at Williamston Cemetery.
