Ester Helen Hamilton

August 11, 1941 — December 24, 2016

Ester H. Hamilton, 75, was born August 11, 1941 to Mary L. Johnson and Ed Hackett in Broken Bow, OK.  Ester known to some as "Helen" and to others as "Mother Hamilton" moved to Idabel, Oklahoma at the age of 18.  She worked and labored in several households cleaning and ironing for a living, until she was hired with Hagar Slack Company. She was employed there for several years as a sewer and machine presser.

Because she desired more for herself and her children, she enrolled in nursing school at Southeastern State University. She completed her education at Paris Junior College in Paris, TX where she became a Licensed Vocational Nurse.  She was immediately employed by McCurtain Memorial Hospital in Idabel in the OB/GYN department. She continued in that capacity for 28 years; she retired due to her health.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Westside since 1960, and served in multiple capacities within the church. She loved the LORD with her whole body and as long as her health allowed, she was in the pew at her church.

She will be dearly missed by all those who knew and saw the strong woman that she was. She loved and was so very proud of all her children.  Ester was known and loved by many that she encountered through her years of working in nursing.  Her love for labor and delivery showed throughout the many expressions of love from those who encountered her expertise in nursing.

Ester was preceded in death by her mother – Mary Lou Johnson, father-Joe Edward Hackett, two sisters – Callie Johnson and Mattie Hackett, three brothers – Richard Abraham, David Hamilton and Joe Hamilton.

She is remembered by children: four sons, Carl Frost, William (Bridgette) Hamilton, Wilburt (Shannon) Hamilton, Brian (Olivia) Hamilton, and two daughters, Beverly Hamilton and Rhonda Hamilton along with a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great great- grandchildren.  Special friends – Mosea White, Lula Johnson, Carla Mitchell,  Elouise Duckett and Sylvia Watson; as well as a host of others who crossed her path.
