Darnell Dunlap Dixon

June 6, 1944 — January 26, 2017

On Thursday Morning January 26, 2017, as Darnell "Dunlap" Dixon laid in her bed at McCurtain Memorial Hospital in Idabel, OK, God gratefully called his good and faithful servant home to receive her reward.

Darnell was born in DeKalb, Texas on June 6, 1944 to her parents; Tom Dunlap and Sulutie "Runnels" Dunlap

At an early age she joined the Beaver Dam Missionary Baptist Church of DeKalb, TX where she became an usher at the age of eleven. She later moved to Texarkana, TX and worked at Lone Star Ammunition Plant in Hooks, TX until she relocated to Idabel, OK.

Darnell married MacArthur Dixon and to this union, eight children were born.

Darnell enjoyed meeting people, cooking, bingo, casino visits, fishing with her sister (Eva Mae) when she was alive, and attending church.

She was an active member of Springhill Missionary Baptist Church where she served as the President of the Usher Board; a member of the Mission Board; Assistant Superintendent of Sunday School, on the kitchen committee and President of the South Eastern District Usher Board until her health failed; and even then she could be found fulfilling her duties.

She loved to cook and bake. She was known for making the most delicious sweet potato pies; people often asked for a slice of her pie.

Darnell was preceding in death by her parents; Tom Dunlap and Sulutie Runnels Dunlap; Sons – Rickey Earl Dixon and Floyd Ray Dixon; Brother - R. Lee Burkins, Sisters – Pearlene Beckom, Eva Mae Williams, Etta B. Dunlap, and Dorothy Helen Hammond.

She leaves to cherish her memories her children – Sheila Donlap (Dwayne), OKC,OK; Mack Dixon (Sandy), OKC, OK; Michael Dixon (Betty), Idabel, OK; Timothy Dixon (Leatrice), Vernon, TX; Gary Dixon, OKC, OK; Brenda Dixon, Idabel, OK; Tracey Warren, OKC, OK; and Arthur Dixon, Dallas, TX. One sister – Lea Herrod, Idabel, OK; Special friends – Doris Dixon, Wight City, OK, Anita Fields, Estoria Bizzell, Louise Walker and LaResse Murphy all of Idabel, OK..

She is also survived by 30 grandchildren, 53 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

The funeral service will be held at ByPass Church of Christ in Idabel, OK on Saturday, February 04, 2017 at 11 A.M. Pastor Allen Gulley will officiate.

Interment will follow the service at Beaver Dam Cemetery in DeKalb, TX.
