Clara (Forte) Hawkins, Henderson, Lowe, age 81, of Idabel Oklahoma, passed away Friday October 11, 2013 at McCurtain Memorial Hospital. She was born November 4, 1931 to Green Sterling and Lena Mae (Neal) Forte in New Boston, Texas. She professed her faith in Christ at an early age and Clara was a faithful member of Rose Hill Baptist Church, serving as an Usher, and wherever she was needed until her health failed.
She received her early education in Clarksville, Texas at Shady Grove, and in Idabel, at Slater and Richland. Her family moved to Idabel, Oklahoma on December 19, 1946. She married Floyd Hawkins Sr. on August 6, 1948, to this union, five children were born. Floyd Sr. passed away in May, 1964, leaving her to raise four children.
Clara was no stranger to hard work. She worked two jobs to take care of her family, and Clara was determined her children would receive a high school education, and college if they desired. She was PTA president when her children were in school at Booker T. Washington high school. Her motto to her children was, "God gave you a mind to think and strength to work." Her home was a safe haven and a place where many meals were served to children in the community. She was employed at McCurtain Memorial Hospital, Wilhaven Nursing Home, and Kellwood Sewing Factory all in Idabel. Clara was also employed at Lone Star Army Depot in New Boston, Texas.
In 1971, Clara moved to Ogden, Utah, where she worked at Hill Air Force Base until she retired. While in Utah, Clara continued her service to the Lord at Second Baptist Church in Ogden Utah and Shiloh Baptist Church in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was an active member of the American Business Women Association and several bowling teams that traveled to many states to compete in tournaments. In 1978 she married Robert C. Henderson, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Clara returned to Idabel in 2000 and married Odie B. Lowe Sr. in 2004.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a son Dwight Edwin Hawkins, a brother Roy Lee Forte, a sister Evie Lee Edmond, and husbands Floyd Hawkins Sr., Robert C. Henderson, & Odie B. Lowe Sr.
Clara leaves many loved ones to cherish her memories: Her children, one son Floyd Hawkins Jr. (Addye) of Kansas City, Kansas; three daughters, Evelena Lady Ashley (Bobby) of Idabel, Oklahoma, Brenda Colleen Andrews, of Rowlett, Texas and Ruby Neal Hawkins, of Idabel, Oklahoma; 14 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, and nine great-great grandchildren; three sisters, Lovie Lee Hearron, Wanda Mason and Kay Forte. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, foster children and dear friends.
Viewing will be held Thursday, October 17th at Nunley's Funeral Home from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
Her Funeral Service is set for 1 PM Friday October 18th, at Rose Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Herbert Smith officiating, and Rev. Bobby C. Ashley Eulogist.
Interment will follow at Williamston Cemetery 1014 S W Murray Idabel, OK.
