Bertha Mae was born September 18, 1929 to Annie Wilson Johnson and Arthur Charlie Johnson of Idabel, Oklahoma, McCurtain County, better known as Kullitukilo.
Bertha Mae moved to Dallas, Texas after her first two children, Helen and Billy were born, Then she married Matthew Thornton, November 15, 1953. From this union 4 children were born; Michael, Milton, Marlene and Marva.
Bertha Mae loved and cherished her family. She was an excellent cook. She could bake any cake or pie you can name. One of our favorite was to ask her to bake a Sock-it-to-Me cake. At her annual thanksgiving dinner at home in Dallas, Texas, she expected everyone to attend. On one of those occasions, no one but Bertha Mae could cook and prepare the dinner. She was quick to let you know "I don't need anybody's help." She could do hair crochet and knit, but her favorite was sewing.
Preceding her in death was her son Michael Thornton; husband, Matthew Thornton; parents, Arthur Charlie (AC) and Annie Wilson Johnson.
She leaves to cherish her memories, 5 children; Helen Johnson of Kansas City, Kansas, "Billy Ray Johnson (Dominque) of Cedar Hill, Texas; Milton Thornton (Melva) of Houston, Texas; Marlene Lynell Thornton and Marva Lynn Thornton, Arlington, Texas, 4 brothers, Oather Clarence (OC) Johnson and James Henry Johnson both of Kansas City, Kansas, Earnest Lee Johnson of Pontiac, Michigan and Clifford Dwayne Johnson of Dallas, Texas, 5 sisters, Ozella Cleo (Kenneth) Nichols of Silver Springs, Maryland; Bobbye Jean Finney of Riverdale, Georgia, Elma Jo (Carl) Fields of McKinney, Texas, Bettye Lou (Elmer) Berry of Kansas City, Kansas and Dorothy Jewel Carr of Idabel, Oklahoma, 4 grandchildren, Tamala Johnson, Billy Ray Johnson Jr., Marques D.
