Barbara G. Matthews was born to Isabell Burris on March 24, 1948. She was? called home to be with the Lord on September 3, 2011 at her home.
At a young age she joined and was a member of the New Dora Baptist Church of Tom, Oklahoma. Barbara rededicated her life to Christ during her time left on this side with Macedonia Baptist Church.
She married Charles D. Matthews July 3rd 1968 in Fayetteville North Carolina.
Barbara was a homemaker, loved her family, and helping people in need. Barbara was dearly loved by her family and will be truly missed.
Barbara is preceded in death by her mother, Isabell Burris, a sister, Mary Louise Burris and a brother, William H. Burris.
She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Charles Matthews of the home; father, Odell Hunter of Idabel; four sisters, Anita Cooper and husband Vaster of Idabel, Diane Bradley and husband Roosevelt of Foreman, Arkansas, Pearly Burris of Idabel, and Tammy Hunter of California; seven brothers, John H. Burris and wife Leona of Idabel, Thurman Burris and wife Mae of Lumberbridge, North Carolina, Vel Burris of Idabel, Robert Hunter and Don Hunter of Oklahoma City, Odell Hunter, Jr. of California, and Michael Hunter of Memphis, Tennessee; a sister-in-law, Vanessa Burris of Idabel; brother-in-law, Joe Matthews of Tulsa; two uncles, J.D. Williams of Tom and John L. Williams of El Paso, Texas; and a special friend, Alfreda "Cookie" Rowe of Fayetteville, North Carolina; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
A Grave Side Funeral Service is set for 2 PM Saturday September 10, 2011 at Williamston Cemetery Pavilion with Pastor Kevin Sheppard officiating.
Interment will follow at Williamston Cemetery
