Barbara Jean Davenport-Raines was born on September 27, 1957 at Homer G. Phillips Hospital in St. Louis, MO to Florence Jones and James L. Williams. She was raised by her grandmother, Myrtle Eastland-Williams and her aunts, Daphne Williams-Penn and June Williams-Keys.
Barbara was the big sister of the house. She was the baby sitter and the cook for her surrogate siblings - Kim, Marc, and April. Barbara was educated in the St. Louis Public School system. At a young age, she accepted Christ and was baptized at Central Baptist Church in St. Louis, MO.
She met Henry Clay, Sr. and to their union, three children were born, Cutina, Hank, and Jamal. She as employed at Blue Cross Blue Shield Insurance Company for many years. It was there that she became friends with Stephany and Reece, AKA Salt N Pepper, as they were known at their workplace.
Along with her grandmother, she relocated to Texas and later to Idabel, OK. It was there that she met and married Donnie Raines. Barbara was a faithful member of Spring Hill Baptist Church until her health failed and would not permit her to attend. Barbara was a proud mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother; always doting on her grands and great-grands.
Barbara is received at her new home by her parents, a great-granddaughter, two brothers, James L. Williams, Jr. and Gerald Hurd; three sisters, Shane F. Compton, Carolyn Jones and Patricia Jones; and an aunt, Daphne Williams-Penn.
She leaves to cherish her memories: Three children - Cutina Denise Davenport, Jamal James Clay, and Henry (Hank) Clay III. Grandchildren - Amiyah, Makia, Ray, JaVeyah, Jamal Jr., Cutina Jr. Shycahna, Kacey, and Kaylin, all of Idabel, OK; Barbara (Daniel), Ashley and Gilder, all of St. Louis, MO and great-grandchildren, Alexis, Jaylin, Marvell.
Also remembering her are three surrogate siblings, Kim (Beverly) Williams of Plano, TX; Marc Williams and April Williams-Brown, both of St. Louis, MO; 12 brothers, Eugene McCallister of St. Louis, MO; Darryl Williams of DeKalb, TX; Earnest Wooten, James A. Williams, and Gregory Y. Williams, all of Oklahoma City, OK; Farrell Jones, Edward Jones, Terry Jones, David Jones, Jonny Jones, and Blain Jones, all of East St. Louis, IL; 12 sisters, Eva Jenean (Darron) Jackson, Veronica (Larrintino) Scales, all of Idabel, OK; Patrece Williams of Jacksonville, AR, Carolyn Rhone of Paris, TX, Cynthia Compton and Antonio (Corey) Mosley of Oklahoma City, OK; and Katrina Compton of Tulsa, OK; and Pamela (Reggie) Parker of Dallas, TX.
She is also survived by four aunts, June Keys of St. Louis, MO, Charity Marshall of Denver, CO; Lillian Lock and Gloria Whitehead; two uncles, Randy Whitehead and Aurthor Sellers; mother-in-law, Juanita Fields Burris; six sisters-in-law, Sheila Raines, Kristi Threatt, Angela (Michael) Hatchett, LaQuita (Les) Payne, all of Idabel, OK; Carolyn Bean and Henrietta Clay of St. Louis, MO; six brothers-in-law, Jeffrey (Victoria) Taylor, David Raines, Horace Raines, Steven Raines, Sylvester Fields, and Ledell (Ebony) Fields, all of Idabel, OK. Also two special friends, Dee Smith and Lana Roberts, both of Idabel; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
