Ardie Daye Clayton

Ardie (Richard) Daye Clayton's sunrise was February 6th, 1941 at 6:02 am in Wagoner, Oklahoma to Willard and Edna Clayton. His sunset was January 16th, 2015 at 3:15 am at the Dallas Veteran's Hospice Unit in Dallas, Texas.


He attended Lincoln High School and Okmulgee Tech before enlisting in the Army. He did two military tours before retiring with 100% service connection. Upon his return, he worked a number of years as a Medic at the Muskogee Veterans Hospital before becoming an entrepreneur and managing a night club and a beauty salon.


Richard was married to Adell Clayton and they were both active members of First Baptist Church in Wagoner, Oklahoma. There he actively served as a Pianist, a Deacon, and a Sunday School teacher until his health impaired him to continue to do so.


He loved to spend time with his family, listening and playing all kinds of music. He blessed us with a soul full of life, laughter, and love. He will be remembered for his vibrant personality and outgoing spirit. He always had an unbreakable love for his family and cherished them greatly. Spending time with his siblings, nieces and nephews, wife, children and grandchildren were some of the moments that made him the happiest. Throughout Richard's life, he faced and overcame many obstacles, but no matter what he was going through he was always able to smile and love his family and friends unconditionally. He was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, uncle, grandfather, and friend.


Richard was proceeded in death by: his wife, Adell Clayton; parents, Willard and Edna Clayton; three sisters, Clara Williams, Jewel Randles and Wilma Givens; one brother, Bobby Clayton; his grandmother, aunts, and uncles.

He leaves to cherish his precious memories: two children, Adria Snorton and husband Gyasi of Dallas, Texas and Kevin Clayton and wife Jan of Tulsa; one brother, R.D. Clayton, Sr. of Idabel, Oklahoma; one Step-Sister, Flora-Jean Alexander of Wagoner, Oklahoma; five Grandchildren, Gabriel Snorton, Adrian Snorton, Savannah Clayton, Olivia Clayton, Kevin Clayton Jr.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Funeral arrangements are set for 11 am Saturday January 24th at the First Baptist Church (800 S. Martin Luther King Ave) in Wagoner, OK.. with Rev., R D Clayton SR. Eulogist.

Interment will be at Fort Gibson National Cemetery, Fort Gibson Ok.

Family hour is set for 6:00-7:00 pm Thursday evening at the funeral home.
