Andrew Buford "A.B." Murray. was born on August 12, 1917 in Wewoka, Oklahoma, to William James Murray, and Arie Spikes Murray. He entered into his heavenly home February 2, 2012 at Hill Nursing Home in Idabel, Oklahoma, at the age of 94 years.
He graduated from Wewoka County Training School in Wewoka, Oklahoma. He received his Bachelor's and Master's Degrees from Langston University in Langston, Oklahoma. Mr. Murray went on to study at Tuskegee University, Tuskegee, Alabama and Prairie View A & M University in Prairie View, Texas.
He served in the United States Army from 1942 until 1946. While serving his country, he received a Good Conduct Medal, was named squad leader, and earned numerous accommodations and citations. Mr. Murray was also a trained rifleman. He was honorably discharged as a Sergeant. He trained to be a Topographical Draftsman with the 1873rd Engineer Aviation Battalion in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. He was employed as a McCurtain County Extension Agent with the present-day Oklahoma State University Agriculture Services Department. A.B. was known throughout the county for his work with county schools; 4-H programs and co-ops. He retired in 1981 with 35 years of service with OSU Extension.
He was affiliated with Westside Baptist Church, Idabel for over 60 years. He served in various capacities in the church. A.B. was truly a gentle man who was respected by those privileged to have known and worked with him.
A.B. was united in marriage to Classie Wallace on February 24, 1944 and to this union two daughters were born: Cynthia Murray and Cymon Jackson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, seven siblings, George, Buster, James, R.D. and Pinkey; and wife Classie Murray.
He leaves to cherish his memory; daughters Cynthia Wilson of Oklahoma and daughter Cymon Jackson of Idabel; a host of cousins, extended family, friends, and his personal assistants; Joyce Walker and Paul Viney of Idabel.
Funeral services are set for 11 AM Thursday 02/09/2012 at Westside First Baptist with Rev. RD Clayton officiating
Interment will follow at Williamston Cemetery.
A family visitation is scheduled from 5 – 7 Wednesday 02/08/2012 here at the funeral home.
