Alma Jewel Hatchett, affectionately known as "Tea Baby," embarked on her heavenly journey on March 8, 2026, at the age of 85. Born on April 14, 1940, in Harris, Oklahoma, she was the cherished daughter of the late Sam and Maggie Andrews. Alma's life was marked by her unwavering faith, deep family connections, and culinary talents that endeared her to everyone who had the pleasure to know her.
Raised in the Harris Community, Alma accepted Christ at a young age and became a devoted member of St. Rest Baptist Church in Foreman, Arkansas. In her capacity as a faithful church member, she made significant contributions to her congregation and nurtured the spiritual lives of those around her. Following a move to Idabel, Oklahoma, her membership at Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church allowed her to remain active in her faith community until her health began to decline.
Alma was educated at Riverside School in the Harris Community, where she engaged fully in her studies and developed a strong work ethic. This diligence paved the way for her career before she made the joyful decision to retire as a full-time homemaker. Alma's skill in the kitchen was legendary; her teacakes, which earned her the loving nickname “Tea Baby,” were a testament to her passion for cooking. Family and friends alike treasured her culinary delights, and these cherished recipes became a way to foster connections and create lasting memories.
Alma's life was beautifully intertwined with her beloved family. She is survived by her sons: Castle Darrell Moore of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Michael (Angela) Hatchett of Idabel, Oklahoma; and Darrell (Paula) Hatchett of Texarkana, Arkansas. She also leaves behind her sisters, Gloria, Betty (Robert) Cheatam, Katherine, Minnie (Donell) Jones, and Patha (Jimmy) Williams; brothers, Theodis (Senora) Andrews and Tilman Ray; and a remarkable legacy of 18 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren, alongside a host of nieces, nephews, and countless other loved ones who will forever carry her memory in their hearts.
Alma is now reunited with several loved ones who preceded her in death, including her husband, her parents, her daughter Sandra, her sons Bobby and Curtis, sisters Vera, Lois, and Ida Mae, and brothers Roy and Randy. Their welcoming arms will surely comfort her in eternity.
A funeral service honoring Alma’s remarkable life will be held on March 14, 2026, at 1:00 PM at By Pass Church of Christ, located at 120 SW Lincoln Rd, Idabel, Oklahoma. Friends and family are invited to pay their respects and celebrate the life of a woman who touched so many lives with her kindness, faith, and love. Alma Jewel Hatchett will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who knew her.
Interment will follow at Williamston Cemetery.
