Betty Jewel Daniels Long, 70 years young, passed away Saturday, March 9, 2013, at Hills Nursing Home, Idabel, Oklahoma. She was born January 15, 1943 in Greely, Colorado, to the proud parents of James Daniels and Odee Wynn.
Betty had an extensive career in public service, working as the Executive Secretary of the Gary Indiana Transit Lines, Human Resources Assistant at the Brandon Mississippi Health Department of Human Services and retired in 2005 as a Department Manager from the Idabel Wal-Mart.
She dedicated the later years of her life to community service through the American Red Cross, Idabel Chapter and served as the President of the Southeastern District Ushers in her home church First Baptist Church Westside, she served as Superintendent of the Sunday School as well as the President of the Usher Board. Betty also enriched women’s lives through sharing Mary Kay Cosmetics.
Some of Betty’s favorite pastimes were fishing, traveling, sports, reading, and spending time with her grandchildren. She cherished her time of reading, and was an active participant with the Idabel Library Book Club.
Betty is preceded in death by her parents James Daniels and Odee Wynn, her only sibling Ruby Jewel Daniels White.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her two daughters, Anita McClain and husband Earl of Idabel and Regina Harlan and husband Terrell of Columbia, SC; one son Gordon Dion Ross; eight grandchildren, Brandon Daniels (28), Corey Daniels (27), Dimond Daniels (20), Sharelle Harlan Griesemer (23) and husband Michael Griesemer (26), Marcus Harlan (21), Joshua Harlan (17), Brent Ross (28), and Krystal Ross (29); two awesome great granddaughters, Asia Daniels (3) and Chloe Griesemer (14 months); one beloved niece Kimberly White Perrin, husband Johnny and Angel Perrin along with a multitude of family and dear friends. Funeral arrangements are set for 11 AM Saturday March 16th, 2013 at the West Side First Baptist Church with Pastor Burnis Burrell Eulogist.
Interment will follow at Williamston Cemetery, Idabel.
Family will receive friends from 5-7 Friday March 15, 2013 at the funeral home.
